Call to Order: President Sam Posner called the meeting to order and asked attendees to enter their names in the chat for accurate record-keeping.

Approval of Minutes: The approval of the previous month’s meeting minutes was postponed to the next month due to inclement weather and holidays. Transcripts and meeting summaries will be made available then.

President’s Report: President Posner presented a slideshow showcasing pictures from the Winter Wonderland assembly. The teachers’ efforts and the bake sale’s success were highlighted. The winning snowman (number five) and Miss Hanley’s impressive performance were also discussed. The Paint and Create event with Miss Kinkle and the third graders’ participation in the American Museum of Natural History’s “Bees” program were also noted.

Principal’s Report: The principal was absent from the meeting.

Treasurer’s Report: Treasurer Sophie Richards presented the treasurer’s report, detailing income and expenses. The successful bake sale, which raised over $700, was a notable highlight. The current balance was reported as $11,544.36.

Spring Budget Approval: Sam Posner presented a proposed spring budget, including $3,500 for class trips, $1,000 for school activity food, $500 for game night, and $300 for Valentine’s Day bags. Each allocation was explained and referenced past spending and planned events. A poll resulted in unanimous approval (ten yes votes, zero no votes).

School Leadership Team (SLT) Update: Sam Posner shared updates from the SLT meeting. They discussed posting SLT minutes online and making future meetings open to the public. They also addressed ongoing efforts to close Jesse Owens Park during school hours for student recess.

Class Parent Meeting: Sam Posner and Rachel Hills discussed the upcoming class parent meeting, scheduled for the following Friday. The meeting aimed to share experiences and improve the class parent program. They also addressed the varying levels of activity in different grade-level WhatsApp groups and in-person meetups.

Parent-Only Community Event: A discussion ensued regarding a parent-only community event. Potential challenges, such as work schedules and childcare, were considered. Shahla Jabeen mentioned waiting for confirmation from the administration. They also discussed offering multiple event times to address scheduling conflicts.

Bylaws: Sam Posner announced the approval of amended bylaws.

Cool Culture Pass: Sam Posner provided an update on the Cool Culture Pass initiative. A plan was presented to fund the pass using unspent class trip funds, penny challenge funds, and potential school contributions. Concerns were raised about the cost and the limited eligibility to kindergarten and younger children. Suggestions included direct parent fundraising and potentially expanding eligibility. The Cool Culture Pass’s October expiration date was also clarified.
