President’s Report: Sam Posner and Syretta Moore discussed the upcoming Family Fun Auction, scheduled for Saturday, May 17th. They plan to obtain necessary permits for both indoor and outdoor spaces. A subcommittee will be formed to further improve the event. Syretta Moore described the auction's history, its fundraising success, and its community-building aspect. Randi Ortiz committed to volunteering, and Michelle Choi suggested soliciting donations from local businesses. Syretta Moore added that even unwanted gift cards are welcome donations.
Principal’s Report: The principal was absent from the meeting.
Treasurer’s Report: Michelle Choi presented the treasurer's report, detailing donations, and expenses. The Penny Challenge was very successful and raised over $1000. The final total may be higher once all coins are counted. The current balance was reported as $11,677.11.
School Leadership Team Update: Sam Posner provided an update from the school leadership team meeting, announcing Mr. Luddy as acting assistant principal. Sam Posner also discussed the upcoming NYCDOE Survey and emphasized the importance of participation and mentioned potential incentives for families to complete the survey.
Community School Grant Assessment: Lisa Donlan introduced a community needs assessment for the Office of Community Schools Grant. They presented six questions focusing on family and community engagement, using a rubric ranging from "not at all" to "fully integrated". The group decided to discuss and answer the questions during the meeting rather than at a later date, acknowledging that the process is time-consuming and requires conversation, not just surveys. The lack of a firm deadline, but a March completion target for the entire assessment was noted. There was a discussion about how to gather parent input efficiently, balancing the need for thoughtful responses with the constraints of time and accessibility. Lisa Donlan intends to bring the assessment materials to the next SLT meeting.
Community Needs Assessment Responses: The group collaboratively answered the assessment questions. For "School and CBO staff believe all families want the best for their children," they chose "moderate extent".
