PS26 Jesse Owens PTA Executive meeting
July 7, 2023
Present: Sam Posner, Michelle Cho, Rachel Hills, Sophie Richards
Sam ran through the core responsibilities of the PTA:
- One exec board meeting per month. Minutes are technically available to all members (currently defined as all parents at the school).
- One general meeting per month (alt in person and remote last year).
- Role responsibilities
- Secretary:
- Meeting minutes and distribution
- Records keeping - technically, records should be kept on the school property for 7 years. (So, print them out?)
- Treasurer:
- Track income/expenses
- Budget development
- Payments/checks
- Digital payments - Venmo, Square
- Manage bank account
- Interim & Annual Financial Report (share with Principal)
- Action: Sam to run a crash course on treasury specifics with Michelle and Sophie first week of August
Sam ran through the optional responsibilities of the PTA:
- Monthly meeting with the administration
- Monthly newsletter - started up last year, how can we continue? Doris continue laying out? Or one of the current committee members who are interested in it?
- Committees - eg, someone to lead on photo day
- Presence in school/help with events - Sam is working FT but starts work at 10am, so has some availability to be in the school in the mornings. Michelle says she can be at the school on days she is not working.
Michelle asks, as a PTA, what is the involvement of the teachers?
Sam says technically is a PA - parents’ association, but we have an opportunity to invite teachers in.
Rachel mentions she would like to have 2-3 meetings based around focused conversations over the course of the year - eg, what we want to fundraise around.
Michelle says her goal is to meet more people. Right now, PTA is comprised mostly of parents of the younger grades, and would like to get parents in older grades around.
